 Greater Excellence in Education Foundation serves Harford County Public School students through a variety of programs that support student achievement.

Ways the Foundation supports students

40 students attended the annual summer's youth leadership academy and wrote goals for academic achievement and postsecondary success

  • 180 YLA students became part of the SMILE Alumni  after attending the YLA. The SMILE Alumni participated in leadership retreats throughout the school year.  This past year, SMILE Alumni went on a retreat to Harford Community College and visited the State Legislature in Annapolis The Annapolis retreat was coordinated by Kathy Carmello, HCPS and sponsored by Senator Nancy Jacobs. The SMILE Alumni also attended a mock drunk driving trial at the Harford County Courthouse, facilitated by Judge Waldron.

1500 new books were put into the hands and homes of students to help build at home libraries to support reading achievement.

Over 500 students received school supplies on their first day of school so they had the materials to be prepared for quality learning.

22 Edgewood High School seniors were presented $19,000 in scholarships for college funding.  The students attended such colleges as University of Maryland College Park, Salisbury State University, and Harford Community College. 

300 elementary school students received homework tool kits filled with school supplies and other resources.

175 parents and students attended Parent Academy's held at each of the Edgewood area elementary schools.

130 parents and students attended the 1st Annual Finding Your Future Education Conference.  Participants received information on goal setting, finding money for college, SAT strategies and college preparedness.

Schools received over $9,000 in funding to support programs to enhance parent involvement in learning such as kindergarten orientation, JumpStart, Books in Hand, and Math Night
